AND SUMMER BEGINS WITH…
1. Rain. Lots and lots of it. Over 8″ here so far in June. But last week in the mountains there was 10-12″ in 2-3 days. Which led to …
2. Flooding. The worst flooding anyone could remember. I will spare you pictures but if you haven’t been watching the news check out this post for lots of pictures and news.

The flood is dreadful and awful and heartbreaking yet I find two reasons to be proud. #1 The way the Emergency Response Plan worked. I have no idea what the plan is but I certainly saw it at work. Hundreds of thousands of people relocated, berms and sand bags in place, the army mobilized, front line workers working hard and smoothly. Volunteers put to use. Hundreds of people plucked from roofs to safety. A major catastrophe handled well. #2 The valor of the first responders. I can’t guess how many hours they put in. Police were sent from Edmonton to assist in Calgary. Looting was prevented. People were protected. Hats off to our brave men and women serving at the front.
3. Summer also means Summer Solstice which is a town party in Olds. And we got dry lovely weather yesterday for it. We enjoyed trade show booths, a Show and Shine display of cars and trucks, antique vehicles on display ready for an auction to raise funds for the Olds College. There was face painting and entertainment. A good time.
We even saw a cheetah.
And a mouse eating ants. Or perhaps it was the other way around. Yuck.
Summer is here. Bring on the sunshine!
